What does it mean to discover yourself?

When Googling “what is self-discovery” you’ll find the answer: the process of acquiring insight into one’s own character. Acquiring insight means you have to be aware of. Be aware of your thoughts, feelings, and your whole being.

My journey to self didn’t start this year or last year or even when I was in high school. It started when I was born.

I truly feel we are naturally on this journey, but along the way, we pick up things from society, our friends, and our family. Things that aren’t even who we truly are and we allow them to mold us and confine us. The moment we wake up and realize this, that is when the process begins. We have to awaken ourselves.

“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything, maybe it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t really you so you can be who you were really meant to be in the first place.” -@girlandhermoon

  • Find discernment in your choices. Are you choosing to believe this from the depths of your soul or because your family told you to believe it? Get real with yourself because you know the answers deep down on the inside.
  • Spend time with yourself. Go out and live life to gain experiences and
  • Let your thoughts out through journaling and meditating.
  • Stay aware over and over again. Continue to take time daily, weekly, or monthly to get to know your feelings and reactions. Look around at your environment.

Start asking yourself questions. It all starts with getting to know who you are in every area of your life. You have to be willing, to be honest with yourself though. If you can’t keep it real with you then who can you be real with? Understand yourself and then learn to love every inch of your being.

You have the right to create yourself. When you embark on this journey and realize you are doing some things you don’t like or your reality is not what you envisioned it would be, change it. Again, ask yourself questions. What do you want to feel like? What do you want to look like? What do you want to do for a living? What is your dream day? What kind of home are you in? What is your confidence like? What kind of food do you eat?

Decide what you want for yourself then be that.

Decide and decide again. As you break off old layers of bad thoughts and unhealthy habits, you will be faced with the choice to decide to fall back into what’s comfortable or decide to keep moving forward to who you truly are.

Understand you will find resistance at some point. Don’t run from it. Step into it and allow it to continue guiding you.

Choose to stand fierce in the middle of your awakening.

As you step into who you are. I mean who you TRULY are.
As you begin to explore yourself without limitations or expectations.
As you start expressing yourself without the care of what others think.
As you shed your old, negative thoughts and habits and connect with your radiant soul.

Stand fierce in the middle of your awakening.

If you become so ingrained on your self-discovery and self-creation, you won’t have time to be caught up in what others may think of you. You won’t even be bothered by the waves that come in life because you’ll be firm in your awareness. You will have a strong understanding that you have everything you need inside of you. You won’t try to fill yourself up with people and things. You will love yourself to your core because of the bond you’re creating between you and your soul. You will have the discernment and self-control to choose what serves you and what doesn’t.

You decided to start on this path, you will continue to decide as the journey progresses, and you’ll be the best you.
